This is where I dug down 1.5 ft to
screen the rocks out of the dirt. The
green house is 20ft x 30ft. Once I was
done screening the dirt, I put it all
back. I needed some extra to fill the
void where the rocks once were.
The Greenhouse
I compacted the ground where the frame would sit
and made it level.
The frame is made out of welded 2 inch 3/16
square tubing. It weighs over 6000 lbs, and is
strong enough to be lifted in one piece if it
needed to be moved later.
We gave it two coats of white primer.
Used about six gallons of paint.
It has four vents on the roof that open
upward. This creates a small tunnel effect
which draws the heat out the top.

Six vents on the sides help pull in cool air.
We don't plan on running fans during the
hotter months. We will simply plant hot
weather crops.

We don't heat in the winter, we just plant
cold weather plants. We found that cold
weather plants do just fine at 18 degrees
as long as you keep the wind off them.
The skin is made of 10 mm twin wall
polycarbonate. This stuff is easy to put on
but is impossible to make water proof. The
insulation factor is non existent. We don't
recommend spending the extra money.
It looks really good though.
We put in a sink and counter for
planting starts. Thats lettuce growing.
We didn't put manure into the ground.
It's virgin soil. We just put some
manure tea on it twice.
We had to put a 30% shade cloth over
to keep it cooler. On a 80 degree day,
it now hovers around 100, if there is a
little breeze.
We put in some solid concrete blocks
in to hold some of the heat with it's
mass.
Our winter crop is about done. You
can see the Brussels sprouts and yes,
a tangerine tree, some beets and
Nasturtium edible flowers that taste like
water crest.
This is the Kohlrabe flowering. We let a lot
of things flower. This helps out the bees and
the seeds are already planted and will
sprout when the conditions are right.
Beets.
Chard.
Brussels Sprouts.
